How Light Energy Therapy Works

Specific wavelengths of light energy, when properly absorbed, up-regulates compromised cells.

The light (photons) energy is absorbed by photoacceptors in the mitochondria and used to create adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The ATP produced then stimulates various metabolic processes which can result in the repair and regeneration of cell and tissue components.

Low level-light therapy has been shown to decrease a patient’s recovery time while reducing discomfort levels and enhancing overall outcomes.

Benefits

LED Light Therapy is ideally suited following any ablative procedure as well as pre and post-surgery for the following reasons:

  • Phototherapy has been shown to accelerate tissue repair, decrease wound size, accelerate the resolution of erythema (redness), accelerate wound closure and prevent dehiscence.

  • Phototherapy prior to surgery may reduce the incidence of hypertrophic scars and keloids.

  • Ongoing post-surgery photo-rejunvenation (activation of fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin, stimulation of keratinocytes which produce keratin to provide structural strength to the skin).

  • Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation prevention.

  • Activation of mast, macrophage and neutrophil cells decrease inflammation and protect against infection.

  • Phototherapy is anti-bacterial.  The presence of P-acne bacteria can lead to post-operative infections, particularly in shoulder surgery.  Using the Celluma prior to surgery will decrease the presence of this bacteria.

  • Reduces appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Increases collagen production.

  • Destroys and kills acne.

  • Energizes damaged cells to accelerate and improve tissue repair.

  • Reduces inflammation and pain.

Light Therapy for Pain Management

In addition to being an effective aesthetic modality, Celluma is a powerful pain management device, which effectively reduces inflammation and increase micro-circulation and vasodilation. Its deeply penetrating near-infrared wavelengths help increase mitochondrial function by increasing ATP production and allowing compromised cells to function more optimally.

LED Light Therapy for Fertility

Studies show that the female egg has several hundred more times the mitochondria than any other part of the body. When the mitochondrial function declines, the quality of eggs drop, and infertility sets in. However, studies have found applying red light therapy can increase fertility 21+% in the women it was tested on.

If you are planning on having a baby or are having trouble conceiving, red light therapy may increase your odds as well as increase your overall cellular function so you can make more robust and healthy offspring.

Red light therapy can also increase fertility in men too: it has been shown to increase testosterone levels and improve sperm motility. So before you put that bun in the oven, hang out under the red lights and get those mitochondria charged up and ready for life!

Until recently, Western reproductive medicine has maintained that aging and declining egg quality is an irreversible process. However, research with LLLT being done in Denmark and Japan is showing that it may be possible to improve egg quality, slow down the aging process, and significantly improve fertility in women and men.
